It's been awhile since I've published anything. This summer has been one of the busiest in recent memory, and I've been spending a lot of my free time trying to develop a hiking habit. Have I mentioned how much I love living in the mountains?
Speaking of which, this morning, I had what I would consider my first wildlife experience. I walked out to the car to go to work, and as I made my way around to the driver's side, I was greeted by a raccoon who'd certainly seen better days. We locked eyes, and I sprinted back into the house and yelled for Casey. Awesome guy that he is, Casey helped me slowly but expertly navigate my way out of the driveway, so that I did not car-murder Little King Trashmouth. As scared shitless as I was of this little guy, I would have felt awful if I killed him.
When I pulled into the parking lot at work, I checked my phone and noticed I'd missed a call. I called the number back, surprised to find out it was someone from Brother Wolf Animal Rescue wanting to see if I was interested in interviewing for a position I'd applied for back when I first moved to Asheville. I thanked her for her call, let her know I am not currently looking for a job, and asked to be put on Brother Wolf's volunteer list.
I can't help but laugh at the fact that mere moments after my act of compassion toward a possibly rabid raccoon, I received a call from an animal rescue organization about a job. I think every once in awhile, the universe likes to let you know that you're doing okay.
